How GoDaddy almost panicked me

This post can also be titled "How GoDaddy fooled me".

A few weeks ago, on 2nd September 2023, I received an email from GoDaddy and the National Internet Exchange of India, informing me that my .in domain is going to expire in 30 days on 2nd October 2023.

After I read the emails, I thought I had a lot of time and for a few hours did not think about it. The next day, I received a message on WhatsApp from GoDaddy to renew the domain. I thought these people irritate me a lot and close the message.

When a few days later, I logged in to my GoDaddy account to check the price of the renewal, I was shocked to notice that it was 1300 Rs, much more than I had anticipated.

I do not earn as of now, so I mostly have to rely on my parents to keep this website running. When I saw the price of the renewal, I was almost sure that this website was now going to be closed. Not because my parents would deny giving me the money, but because I do not want to ask for it every single time.

One day, I just showed them the email from GoDaddy about the renewal of mayankvikash.in and my father agreed to it. So, a few days later, on 8th September, I went to the Products page of my GoDaddy. At the top of the website, it was showing a warning message to pay for the renewal and when I clicked it, the payment page appeared with my father's UPI ID already entered.

I paid 1600 Rs (250 rs tax) through Google Pay and when I received the receipt in my inbox, it stated to my surprise that the renewal was for 2 years.

When I checked back the product section, upon clicking on the domain, I could find the renewal button, and I saw the price of 699 Rs for 1 year.

GoDaddy cleverly put the banner at the top of the site with the renewal of 2 years and you cannot change too when you click on the banner link as you are taken to the payment page directly.

This is a clever move to buy customers 2 years of renewal plans.

But it kind of panicked me as 1300 rs is an amount for renewal.

It is good now I do not have to worry for 2 years and this site is never going down as I am confident that I can make a living in the next 2 years.
